The pattern is read from close, arm length, and small preview scale. A design that only works in one distance is marked as fragile.
Use proof
The surface is imagined on fold, curve, corner, shadow, and glare. The pattern must keep its intention when the object changes posture.
Repeat testing gives pattern criticism a body. Instead of saying a surface feels busy, Giyga asks which interval is overactive. Instead of saying a color is strong, it asks whether that strength creates a useful hierarchy. Instead of approving a beautiful tile, it checks the places where a repeat becomes a seam, a border, a thumbnail, or a background behind real content.
